We are the Genetic Genealogy Special Interest Group of The Villages Genealogical Society, the largest genealogical society in the State of Florida. We are located in The Villages, the world’s largest gated retirement community. The Villages hosts the world’s largest golf facility within its borders, and is almost twice the size of Manhattan.
Because we are an over 55 community, the demographics here are heavily skewed toward interest in genealogy. Since its formation in October 2012, the Genetic Genealogy SIG has grown quickly, the roster swelling to 185 members in 17 months. Our mission is to share information about DNA Testing, the field of Genetic Genealogy, and understanding test results.
The SIG Coordinator is Jim Lannin, a member of ISOGG, the International Society of Genetic Genealogists. Our membership is open only to dues-paid members of The Villages Genealogical Society. VGS membership is limited to residents of The Villages, Florida. First year dues are $10, and are $5 per year thereafter. The VGS Genetic Genealogy SIG meets at 10:00am on the second Friday of the Month. Meetings are held in the Charleston and Rhett Butler Rooms of the Savannah Regional Recreation Center, 1545 Buena Vista Boulevard, The Villages, Florida 32162.
